Sports Injuries

Playing sports can be a fun and engaging way for children to stay physically active. From running around on the playground with their friends, to competing as an elite athlete, injuries can happen in any environment. At Butterfly, our physiotherapists have experience treating a number of various different sporting injuries including but not limited to muscle strains, ligament sprains, joint injuries and fractures. If your child is suddenly reporting a new pain, seems to be moving differently, or has new onset swelling or bruising, our physiotherapists are here to help!

Following a thorough assessment related to your child’s injury, your physiotherapist will then develop an individualized treatment plan to help your child return to their original level of function prior to their injury. At Butterfly, our goal is to help your child return to activity as soon and safely as possible. Your child’s treatment will include a variety of techniques targeted to decrease pain and discomfort, increase range of motion and flexibility, increase strength and build confidence while working towards return to activity. Treatment techniques may include manual therapy, physical activity, a home exercise program or education to assist with recovery.

Not only can our physiotherapists help your child recover from injury, but we can also help prevent injury in the future through activity specific prehabilitation. Now, you may be thinking, what is prehabilitation? Prehabilitation is the process of improving the functional capability of a child to not only perform at their best, but also to assist in preventing injury by increasing their strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and balance. Through prehabilitation training, your child will be exposed to exercises specific to the movement patterns used in their sport to decrease the risk of future injuries.

Why Butterfly?

We understand that sports injuries can be concerning both for you and your child. Our physiotherapists have taken further education related to manual therapy techniques, functional strength training, exercise prescription and kinesiotaping to help optimize the function of your child, return to activity and decrease the risk of future injuries. We strive to help all children participate in the activities that they love, and to do so at their best!
